BATU PAHAT: A bus full of Indonesian tourists escaped unhurt after the double decker bus they were in caught fire along the North-South Expressway yesterday.

There were 32 tourists on board the bus, which caught fire at Km99.9 (northbound) near Yong Peng.

In the 11.10am incident, the bus was travelling from Johor Baru to Kuala Lumpur before the driver stopped the bus in the emergency lane, believed due to a technical problem, before it burst into flames.

Yong Peng Fire and Rescue Department chief Mohd Asroy Mohd Yahaya said four fire engines from Yong Peng, and two from Ayer Hitam, were despatched to the scene and managed to put out the fire 15 minutes later.

“All 32 passengers and the driver managed to escape. No injuries were reported,” he said.
