Country must remain under the leadership of a Muslim, says Pas president

THE people should reject DAP leaders aspiring to become the prime minister, said Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang. He said this was because it not only went against Islam’s position as the official religion of the federation, but also because DAP had failed to establish a clean government.

Citing what was happening in Penang, he said the people in the state, which was ruled by DAP, were going through hardship due to shortcomings in the state administration.

“The people in Penang are seeing this for themselves,” he said at his official residence in Rusila yesterday.

He said this was in contrast to Pas, which prioritised Islamic leadership in the country.

“DAP is incapable of forming a clean government, and there have been many stories about its weaknesses.

“In fact, it would go against the reality of the situation in this country if a DAP leader ends up becoming the prime minister should the opposition pact win the general election.”

Hadi was commenting on reports that DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang could end up becoming the prime minister in the event the opposition won the 14th General Election.

He said Pas would definitely oppose a non-Muslim leader becoming the prime minister.

“Our priority is to ensure that a Muslim leads this country.

“That is important. We must ensure this country remains under the leadership of a Muslim.”

Hadi said Pas would contest as many seats as possible in the general election.
