Gabit refuses to be derailed by horrific injury

-

Ainjury sustained in a motocross crash may have derailed his chances of defending his overall title this season but it has not put off Muhd Habibullah Saleh from looking to end his year on a high at the fifth and final round of the FIM Asia Supermoto Championship in Bukit Jalil this weekend.

Habibullah, better known as “Gabit”, punctured his lungs in the accident in October and was forced to miss the third round in Taiwan last month. He, however, raised eyebrows when he finished second (first race) on his return at the fourth leg in Singapore earlier this month.

“It has not been my year, I am not in the running for the title after what happened but that is how it is sometimes,” said the 26year-old.

“However, I am not going to throw in the towel, I still want to give the other guys — especially Khairi Zakaria, Lewis Cornish and Trakarn Thanthong a strong challenge in this final round.

“I had no expectations on myself at the last round in Singapore as I had just come back. I was surprised to do as well as I did.

“I will take the same approach this time in Bukit Jalil and try to finish as high up as possible in both races.”

Habibullah is currently sixth in the overall international class standings with 91 points, a distant 79 points behind leader Lewis Cornish of Britain. Fadhli Ishak
