MURDER SUSPECT TAKEN TO SCENE
Investigators spend more than 2 hours with suspect
THE main suspect in a fire where four family members were found dead was taken to the scene of the crime in Tanjung Sepat, here.
His presence attracted a large crowd at the fishing village that was shocked by the murders of Chia Tee Nang, 73, his wife, Lim Mai Shak, 68, and their two grandchildren on Wednesday morning.
The 38-year-old suspect, who has speech and hearing impairment, was escorted by investigators at the crime scene, located in Jalan Tepi Laut here about 11am.
Clad in lock-up attire, the suspect, believed to be the boyfriend of the elderly couple’s only daughter, was handcuffed, wore a camouflage fishing hat and a mask.
His right hand was wrapped in bandage, believed to be due to the injuries he had sustained when he allegedly torched the house following a financial dispute with the family.
The fire shook the fishing village and was described as the worst in its history.
Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Fadzil Ahmat said his investigators spent 2½ hours with the suspect at the scene.
“We took the suspect to the scene as part of our investigations.
“This is to assist us as we delve deeper into the case.
“My men also had with them a sign language interpreter to communicate with the suspect.”
The victims’ bodies were claimed by family members from Banting Hospital about 1.30pm.
A wake is being held at a family member’s house and the funeral is expected to take place on Tuesday.
Selangor police chief Datuk Mazlan Mansor yesterday said they believed the case was solved with the arrest of the suspect, a furniture factory worker, on Friday.
The suspect was arrested at a shoplot in Taman Pusat Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, by investigators from the Selangor police contingent’s Serious Crimes Division.
A seven-day remand was obtained from the Kuala Langat court.
Mazlan said: “The man, who has no criminal record, was believed to have acted alone.”
He said that investigations were ongoing under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder after criminal elements were detected in the case.
