Dutch model’s family leaves Malaysia early
KUALA LUMPUR: The family of a Dutch model who was found dead on the sixth floor of a condominium is believed to have left Malaysia.
The family’s friend, who wanted to be known only as Bart, said 19-yearold Ivana Smit’s parents and brother left for The Netherlands via the Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 7.55pm on Friday.
Bart, who spoke to Ivana’s father, Marcel Smit, over the phone, yesterday, said the reason for the departure would be made clear as Marcel was expected to explain it when he returned to The Netherlands.
He said the family had bought three flight tickets at a later date, but they changed their mind and had bought new tickets because “they were in a hurry”.
They left Ivana’s body here.
The family, who had arrived in Malaysia on Monday to claim her body, expressed doubts that her death was an accident, claiming that Ivana had bruises on her neck.
City police Criminal Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Rusdi Mohd Isa said police were expected to release a statement regarding the investigation into the case by tomorrow.
Last week, Ivana was found dead on the balcony on the sixth floor of the apartment in Jalan Dang Wangi here, where she was staying with an American and his Kazakh wife on the 20th floor.
