Pregnant mum killed by falling shoe rack

-

SHAH ALAM: An 8-month pregnant woman was killed when a dilapidated wooden shoe rack fell on her at her house in Section 23, here, on Friday evening.

In the 6.30pm incident, Nor Haslin Harun, 35, was believed to have been checking on the poor condition of the shoe rack, which was mounted at a height of 3m in the porch.

Her husband, Izrisham Hussin, 36, said Haslin had told him of the poor condition of the rack, which had been infested with termites and was falling apart.

“After eating, Haslin went to the porch and closed our front door. I believe she wanted to fix the shoe rack on the wall.

“However, it fell on her instead. I was in the house when the incident took place,” said Izrisham at his house, here, yesterday.

Izrisham added that he was sure that Haslin had died instantly as her injuries were severe.

“I called the hospital as I noticed that our unborn baby was moving. However, our baby girl was certified dead on the way to Shah Alam Hospital.”

Haslin leaves a son and two daughters, aged between 4 and 9.

Haslin, who is from Negri Sembilan, was buried at the Section 21 Muslim cemetery at 11am.

Shah Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shafien Mamat said investigations showed that the shoe rack, which measured 2.4m by 1.2m, had struck Haslin’s head, causing serious injuries.
