Syahril Amirul Suib has no science background, but he realised his potential at Management and Science University.

AIRCRAFT MRO (maintenance, repair, overhaul) is a demanding career that requires competence in Physics. Syahrir Amirul Suib had no science background, but he realised his potential at Management and Science University (MSU).

The member of the Students Representative Council (SRC) was keen on a career in aircraft maintenance, but with no background in the physical sciences, getting his dream off the ground had been unthinkable.

He discovered MSU and chose its Foundation in Engineering and Technology (FET) programme.

With support from his lecturers, it was not long before he was able to switch to the Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance Technology (DAMT) programme.

Syahrir said he was in Kelab Penyayang (#MSUCares). “Volunteerism teaches us how to be good human beings, and it is an MSU culture that aligns with my own.”

“It was a challenge for me to go into the DAMT programme with no high-school background in engineering or science.

“It was a challenge for me to join the Students Representative Council (SRC), because its candidacy is considered only among bachelor’s students. But I worked at those challenges.

“I think aeroplanes count among the most fascinating inventions. I like everything about aircraft. An aircraft maintenance engineer is also one of the most in-demand job titles, so my future in the job market is secure.

“DAMT was a new programme at MSU. Not many were aware of the programme at the time, which has resulted in my class being close-knit.

“I enjoy the attention everyone in the class gets. The lecturers are experienced, and my classmates make great friends.

“We now have on-campus various engine types for hands-on learning, and also aeroplane wings, landing gears, tools, great stuff for the practical part of this programme.”

MSU’s Global Mobility Programme has links MSU’s partner universities.

“I like that at MSU, the pathway to my dream career is mapped out. I would grade my MSU learning experience a ‘10’.”

Syahrir said the campus location was good, the facilities were good and there were enough clubs and associations.

“The staff are friendly. The lecturers are good.

“There is a great bond between MSU lecturers and students, like what you have between good friends.

“Physics and aerodynamics were new to me, but the lecturers taught me from the basics.

“Never once did they think of me as troublesome.

“Knowing my non-science background, they went all out to help me, and because of that, I have maintained a 3.95 CGPA.

“To me, the best thing about MSU is that the university keeps evolving MSU is a top choice, and in terms of DAMT, it’s top value for money.”

Aviation pathways at MSU include the Foundation in Engineering and Technology (FET), Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance and Technology (DAMT), and Bachelor of Science in Aviation Management and Piloting (BAVM).
