Giving them an edge in life

-

IT is important for students to learn how society functions to facilitate earning and development of critical thinking skills, empathy and boost confidence when dealing with problems. SEGi facilitates the exploration of students’ interests through participation in clubs and societies, identification of personal interest and development of social skills.

Students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities as well as volunteering for community service projects.

For example, students from SEGi College Penang Students Representative Council (SRC) organised activities to help those affected by the Penang floods.

The project named Helping Hands received a positive response from staffs and students during a two-day fundraising drive.

Student volunteers visited four villages in Seberang Perai and distributed items to families.

With a student population of 25,000, there are always activities including cultural, social, sporting and recreational activities.

Helping Hands is one of hundreds community service projects.

Other projects included social responsibility service programme for Kampung Orang Asli Gurney, Ulu Yam and Children’s Day Celebration for underprivileged pupils of SJK (T) Rri Sungai Buloh.

SEGi believes that participation in community service projects is a critical component of a successful education that will shape future leaders.

Besides that, these interactions expose them to diversity and multiculturalism, and most importantly, it improves their communication and critical thinking skills.

SEGi offers scholarship programmes for high-achieving and outstanding students.

School leavers with SPM, STPM or its equivalent qualifications can apply for High Achiever’s Scholarship (HAS) as it grants up to 100 per cent tuition fee waiver to applicants with excellent academic results.

Other scholarships and incentives are sports scholarship for athletes who represent the state or nation at sporting events, RM500 rebates for early registrants and education loan from PTPTN.
