‘DR M WILL DESTROY COUNTRY IF HE AGAIN HOLDS REINS OF POWER’
His tenure as PM plagued nation with crises, says Pas Youth vice-chief
MALAYSIA will be destroyed if former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is allowed to lead the country again after the 14th General Election (GE14).
Pas Youth vice-chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said this could be seen from past crises that plagued the nation during Dr Mahathir’s 22-year rule.
He said incidents like the Memali incident in 1985, the constitutional crisis involving the Malay rulers and the sacking of then-deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim would likely happen again if the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman was allowed to lead the nation.
Fadhli added that Dr Mahathir was likely to make about-turns from stances which he had taken, such as claiming that Anwar was a political prisoner.
“He was the one who was responsible
for sacking Anwar.
“I don’t see how we can trust Dr Mahathir again.
“He will destroy the country,” he said yesterday.
Fadhli, who is also Kelantan Pas Youth chief, claimed that the people were trying to clean up the many “diseases”, the result of Dr Mahathir’s reign as prime minister.
He said Malaysians should reject Dr Mahathir and look at Pas, which had been practising “mature politics”, to lead them after GE14.
“The opposition pact has no well-known figure it can put as its candidate and it needs Dr Mahathir.
“I believe leaders in the opposition still have the time to reconsider backing Dr Mahathir as the pact’s senior-most leader.”
