POLICE have identified the four people who stabbed a man and ran their car over him. A witness captured the horrific scenes in a video, which has since gone viral.

AMAN was killed when he was stabbed and mowed down by a car at a petrol station on Sunday night. The murder occurred in plain sight of pump attendants and customers at 7.30pm at the premises in Jalan Sri Pelangi, Taman Pelangi here.

The 44-year-old businessman, whose identity is being withheld by police, had stopped his Volkswagen Polo to inflate his tyres.

State police chief Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said four men attempted to bundle the man into their car, but the victim put up a struggle and freed himself.

The victim was with his Vietnamese wife, who is in her 20s. She ran out during the scuffle to get help.

“The assailants tried to pull him into their car, but he fought back.

“The woman, who was with the victim, ran out to get help.

“She was unhurt,” Khalil said at the crime scene on Sunday night.

The victim, who was stabbed during the struggle, collapsed. His assailants then got into the BMW and threw a firecracker from their vehicle.

They circled the petrol station and knocked down the man.

After hitting him, the men reversed their car and ran over the man again.

The assailants then fled the scene.

The incident was captured on video by a bystander. The video clip has since gone viral.

Khalil said a post-mortem showed that the man died due to stab wounds.

“Based on the footage of the video and initial investigations, it was evident that the assailants made a direct attack on the victim.

“Police are looking at all angles, including the possibility that it might have something to do with the victim’s business.

“However, this has not been proven and we are investigating,” he told the New Straits Times.

He said the suspects captured on the video had used a fake registration plate on their vehicle.

“Checks revealed that the BMW bore another vehicle’s number plate.

“Police have recorded a statement from the owner of the vehicle

with the registration plate and we have concluded that he has no connection to the case.”

He said police had identified the assailants and that a description of the suspects’ car, with the fake registration number WB79L, was posted on the state police’s Facebook page.

A manhunt was launched and roadblocks were set up in Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Tebrau and Jalan Skudai hours after the incident.
