MALAYSIA is expected to come up with its own resolution on the United States’ decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital during the Solidarity Rally to Save Jerusalem at Putra Square here tomorrow.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak might announce the resolution during the rally.

He said even though the US had vetoed the draft resolution on the matter during the United Nations Security Council sitting, Malaysia would not give up the fight for Palestine.

“Malaysia will work in a collective manner with the support of other countries and the world community on this issue,” he said yesterday, after chairing a meeting on tomorrow’s mega rally.

Zahid said Malaysia would join other nations in the UN General Assembly Emergency Special Session to deliberate the matter.

“We are not stopping here. What is important is for Malaysians to be with the government to call on the US and Israel to rescind their decisions to declare Jerusalem the capital of Israel.”

The 193-member UN General Assembly will hold an emergency special session today at the request of Arab and Muslim states on the decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Palestinian UN envoy Riyad Mansour said the general assembly would vote on a draft resolution calling for Trump’s declaration to be withdrawn.

Asked if Malaysia had contacted Washington on the matter, Zahid said he had yet to receive any information on it, but believed that Wisma Putra had done what was necessary to address the matter.

On tomorrow’s rally, Zahid said 250 non-governmental organisations and political parties had confirmed their attendance.

With more than 10,000 people expected to turn up, the deputy prime minister said police and relevant authorities would make logistical arrangements to manage the big crowd.

“There will be bus services by Nadi Putra to shuttle people to the venue. Vehicles have to park at designated places to ease possible congestion.”

The rally will begin about noon with a forum inside the Putra Mosque before Friday prayers.

Forum panelists are Palestinian Ambassador to Malaysia Datuk Dr Anwar H. Al Agha, PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Parti Amanah Negara vice-president Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa, Pas deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia Information chief Datuk Kamaruddin Mohd Noor, and Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia president Dr Yusri Mohamad.
