KUALA LUMPUR: The “Solidarity Rally for Jerusalem” held in Putrajaya yesterday triggered a flood of reactions on social media.

Social media platforms were flooded with messages, with Facebook and Twitter posts brimming with words of support and Instagram swamped with photos of the rally.

Facebook user Ahmad Azwan Al-Fateh, who attended the rally, posted a photo of him wearing a Palestinian flag-themed keffiyeh, and encouraged the public to join the crowd.

“Assalamualaikum (peace be upon you) and good morning. I have arrived at the Putra Mosque since early morning for the rally. All Malaysians, please come and join us here to show some support! #SingleRider #MujahidinGaza #WeAreAllAlQassam”

Another user, Norhaslina Hassan in her Facebook post, urged the public to continue to help the unfortunate and pray for the Palestinians.

“God please help them (the Palestinians) so that their voices can still be heard; we should continue helping the oppressed.”

Zaid Hero, in a Facebook post, called on Malaysians to cast aside political differences and to focus solely on the rally to save Jerusalem, with the hashtags #Save #Baitulmuqaddis2017.

Chen Sarah shared her thoughts about the rally in a post and rejected United States’ decision on Jerusalem.

“I am not a Muslim, but I am against the US resolution... Good luck Palestine and its people.”

Twitter user, @AsmaLord lauded the government’s effort in rallying for the Palestinians.

“The Jerusalem rally is a good idea to show our support for our Palestinian brothers and sisters. Hopefully, this is only a start (of things to come).”

Participants of the rally began gathering as early as 10am for the demonstration at the Putra Mosque in Putrajaya.

People had arrived from all over the country to participate in the event as a show of solidarity with the people of Palestine, and to protest against the US’s move to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
