PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is expected to rally the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) as it gears up for the next parliamentary election.

The prime minister and Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman is expected to attend the closing ceremony of the party’s 24th delegates’ conference at the party headquarters in Jalan Tan Sri Ong Kee Hui here tomorrow.

More than 150 party delegates statewide will join Najib during the event.

Also expected at the event is Chief Minister and Sarawak BN chairman Datuk Patinggi Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Abang Openg.

Party president Prof Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said there would be no contest for the president and four other top posts in SUPP, one of the four component parties in Sarawak BN.

Dr Sim, who is also the state Local Government and Housing Minister, made the announcement after the nomination period for the party election closed at 4pm on Thursday.

The other posts that will see no contests are the two deputy presidents posts, secretary-general and treasurer.

Dr Sim said SUPP wanted to wrest back all six parliamentary seats, which the party lost in the previous general election (GE13).

The seats are Bandar Kuching, Stampin, Sarikei, Sibu and Lanang, all won by DAP. SUPP also lost the contest for the Miri parliamentary constituency to PKR during GE13.

Najib, who is also the finance

minister, will attend a walkabout programme at Kampung Bako at noon.

He is also expected to attend a lunch hosted by the villagers before leaving for Kuala Lumpur.
