Zhuliang feels betrayed

-

OUTGOING national diving head coach Yang Zhuliang feels he has been unfairly blamed for the recent issues faced in the sport.

Responding to a statement by Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, Zhuliang said he was surprised by the claims made by the minister on his Facebook page.

“I am surprised by the statement made by the minister. How can I possibly be in control of everything?” said Zhuliang.

“At times, the training may have been too hard for some of the divers. My only goal was to turn them into champions.

“There were misunderstandings which happened during my time but they were not serious.

“I was surprised by the rape incident and I did not know anything about it.”

Zhuliang, who is the most successful coach in the history of Malaysian diving, added that he is resigned to the fact that he is no longer needed.

“If I am no longer wanted here, then there is not much I can do about it.”

“I have coached for 30 years, I am tired and just want to go home to China and look after my parents.

“My wife is also happy. Now I can spend more time with the family,” said Zhuliang.

The National Sports Institute (NSI) are bringing in an Australian coach to fill in the void left by Zhuliang. The coach will join the team next month.
