He was arrested while trying to board Malaysia-bound flight
AMALAYSIAN man suspected of having links with the Islamic State (IS) was arrested at a Karachi airport in Pakistan on Friday.
A Pakistani media portal, tribune.com.pk, reported that the man was nabbed as he was attempting to board a Malaysia bound flight via Jinnah International Airport.
It said that authorities seized four guns, eight magazines and 70 bullets concealed in his baggage and shoes.
It added that the suspect was taken to the airport police station and probed by intelligence agencies, who were trying to determine why he attempted to smuggle weapons and ammunition through the airport.
A picture of the be spectacled suspect was posted on the portal, showing him in his jacket and a “kopiah” on his head, as well as a picture of four black guns, magazines and bullets in two trays.
His passport image has been circulated on social media, revealing his age as 20.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said Pakistani security agencies had informed him of the arrest.
“The suspect is detained in Pakistan.
“We will work with our counterparts there.
“We will request Pakistan to deport him here so police can arrest and investigate him, but that will take time as we have to follow procedures.”
He said checks revealed that the suspect, from Serian in Sarawak, had links to IS.
