Honda Malaysia announces recall for 49,116 Odysseys and Accords

-

HONDA Malaysia Sdn Bhd has announced a product recall affecting 49,116 Odysseys and Accords to replace battery sensors and door mirror components.

The recall affects 2014 to 2017 year model Odysseys and 2013 to 2016 year model Accords.

“Honda Malaysia assures that other models selling currently are not affected. Replacement parts availability is at 50 per cent for battery sensors and door mirror components,” it said in a statement.

The company added that the battery sensor failure issue was due to inaccurate forming on the printed circuit boards (PCB) in the battery sensors during production.

“This may cause electrical shortcircuiting of the sensors and the possibility of smoke coming from the hood or, in the worst case, a fire,” said Honda Malaysia.

The defective door mirror component issue was due to inconsistent surface treatment of the movable contact area inside the door mirror retracting switch.

“It may cause the affected door mirror to retract during driving or parking,” it said.

The battery sensor failure affects 20,233 units of Accords (2013-2016 models), while the defective door mirror issue affects 27,912 of Accords (2013-2016 models) and 971 units of Odysseys (2014-2017 models).

“To date, the availability of replacement parts is at 50 per cent for the battery sensors and the defective door mirror components. Affected customers are advised to make an appointment with any of the 91 Honda authorised dealers to replace the parts, as stocks are sufficient for current replacement requirements,” said Honda Malaysia.

The company said that there were no incidents of fire, crashes or injuries related to these issues reported in Malaysia to date.

“Honda is taking this preemptive measure to ensure customer safety, and regrets the inconvenience to all affected customers. All affected failed sensors and defective door mirror components will be replaced with the rectified components.

“Honda Malaysia would like to assure all customers that the company is committed to its mission to maintain the best product quality. This proactive measure is being taken to avoid any possible damage or accidents,” said the Japanese automaker.

It said that all affected customers would be informed via notification letters, which would include details of the product recall.

“Customers who receive the letters are advised to send their vehicles to the nearest Honda authorised dealer for inspection and replacement. Any charges related to the product recall will be borne by Honda Malaysia,” it said.

Honda Malaysia strongly encourages all affected customers to replace the defective battery sensor as it may become a fire hazard, and the door mirror component for a safer drive.
