Kota Belud rivers close to danger level

KOTA BELUD: Two rivers here are close to breaching the danger level following a downpour that started last night.

The downpour caused floods in 12 villages and affected seven roads.

A state Civil Defence Force spokesman said officers were on full alert, and there was no evacuation of flood victims yet.

“We have teams deployed to several locations,” he said.

The two affected rivers were Sungai Abai and Sungai Tempasuk.

Sungai Kadamaian was at the normal level.

The flooded villages were Bobot, Donggoi, Marajah, Gunding, Sadok Sadok, Lingkodon, Linau, Lebak Moyoh, Ejuk, Menunggui, Song Song and Karang Benai.

The affected roads were Jalan Kampung Bobot, Jalan Siasai Tamu, Jalan Kampung Menunggui, Jalan Kampung Linau, Jalan Kampung Kota Belud, Jaan Kampung Lebak Engad and Jalan Bypass Lebak Moyoh Kudat.

The Malaysian Meteorolog­ical Department issued a warning at 8am, with heavy rain and strong wind expected to hit Sabah.

The affected areas are Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Sipitang, Tenom, Keningau and Tambunan districts, and the west coast (Papar, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Kota Belud and Tuaran districts).

Heavy rain with strong winds are expected to hit Labuan and Johor (Mersing and Kota Tinggi), Pahang (Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin) and Sarawak (Limbang).

The department also issued a warning on Typhoon Tembin at 9.01am.

As at 8am, the typhoon was moving west-northwestw­ards at 25kph.
