Statements of five linked to Felda case recorded
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have recorded statements from at least five people in connection with the dubious transfer of Felda’s land in Jalan Semarak to a private company.
It is learnt that among those police had questioned were Federal Territory Department of Land and Mines’ director, former director-general of Felda Investment Corporation Sdn Bhd (FIC), an officer of the Registrar of Companies and FIC senior management staff.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim yesterday confirmed this development.
He said more people would be called in to give their statements soon.
“Yes, we have recorded statements from at least five people, and have collected several documents to facilitate investigations into the case.
“We are trying to have the statement from the person who had lodged the report (on the case) and several other witnesses,” he told the New Straits
Times.
Asked when police would call former Felda chairman Tan Sri Isa Samad, Noor Rashid said police had to first interview the person who had lodged the report. He said police would analyse the complainant’s statements before calling up Isa.
It is learnt that Isa might be called up before Jan 8, as he was expected to leave for Mecca to perform the umrah by then.
Noor Rashid declined to state a date when Isa’s statement would be taken. However, he assured the public that police would call Isa in and that investigations were ongoing.
On Dec 21, Berita Harian exposed a dubious land transfer in its exclusive report, which had prompted Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to order action to be taken if there had been negligence and wrongdoing.
In Bandar Seri Jempol, settlers of Felda Raja Alias Tiga lodged a police report yesterday urging for immediate and detailed investigations into the sale of the four parcels of land and to identify the mastermind behind it.
The report was lodged at Bandar Seri Jempol police station at 10.17am, led by settler Mohd Nasir Abdul Rahman, 57, who was accompanied by more than 30 Felda settlers.
Nasir said the report was lodged to enable the authorities to conduct an immediate investigation into the case and bring to book those behind the sale of the land.
“This case involves the interest of Felda settlers throughout the country. We hope police will conduct a fair and transparent investigation.
“We do not accuse anybody in this case. We will let the police investigate,” he said.
Jempol district police chief Superintendent Muhd Nur Hishamuddin Hashim confirmed that the department had received the police report.
“Investigations regarding Felda land will be handed to Bukit Aman police department,” he said.
