RoS notified of PPBM’s annual general assembly on Saturday
KUALA LUMPUR: The Registry of Societies (Ros) yesterday confirmed that it has been notified of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s (PPBM) annual general assembly (AGM), to be held on Saturday.
RoS director-general Surayati Ibrahim said PPBM had sent a letter to the agency to notify it of the assembly, adding that RoS had taken note of the party’s intention.
“It is the responsibility of a party to hold an AGM as stipulated under its constitution. However, it is not RoS’s standard operating procedure to monitor any political party’s AGM.”
On Nov 17, Surayati said RoS did not recognise PPBM’s extraordinary general meeting, which was held on Nov 2 last year, as only 12 of its supreme council members attended the meeting.
This led to a delay in Pakatan Harapan’s registration as an official opposition pact.
PPBM chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had said the reason PPBM could not hold an AGM was due to the party’s poor organisational structure, as its divisions and branches had failed to hold meetings at their levels.
However, last week, PPBM deputy president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir said the party would hold its first AGM on Dec 30, where 990 delegates from 137 divisions would be attending.
Asked if the attendance of 990 delegates was sufficient for the party’s AGM to be recognised, Surayati said it was too premature to comment.
“This is (a) technical (matter). I will have to wait for the assembly to conclude in order to evaluate,” she added.
Mukhriz had said the assembly would take place at the Shah Alam Ideal Convention Centre.
