Fake pistol, bullets, police credentials seized from drug addict

-

SHAH ALAM: Police yesterday seized a fake pistol, blank bullets and police credentials from a drug addict, who said it was his hobby to imagine being a policeman.

Police are investigating the 37-year-old car accessories supplier under the Firearms Act 1960.

Shah Alam deputy police chief Superintendent Nek Zaidi Zakaria said the suspect was nabbed when police raided an upmarket condominium in Section 13 here after being tipped off by the public.

“During the operation, a team from Shah Alam police D9 (Serious Crime) Division found a fake Walther P99 pistol and 50 blank ammunition in the condominium unit where they arrested the suspect.

“Checks found that the imitation gun was made to fire blank bullets. The suspect told police that he ordered it online through Ebay website and was keeping it as a hobby.

“Police also seized

58 name cards bearing the police logo, fake Interpol credentials, a pair of handcuffs and gun holster,” he said.

Nek Zaidi said the man did not have a criminal record. However, he said, police did not dismiss the possibility that the man could have used the pistol to carry out criminal activities.

“He told us that he imagined himself as a policeman. Maybe he is mentally unsound, or he is imagining things because of his drug abuse.

“But, whatever it is, we are working to find out. We have acquired a remand order until Dec 29 against the suspect to facilitate investigations.”

Nek Zaidi said the man had tested positive for methamphetamine. The case is being investigated under Section 36 of the Firearms Act 1960 and Section 89 of the Police Act (for being in possession of police items).
