Neelofa’s dolphin stint draws flak
WHEN you’re one of the most popular Malaysian celebrities, best believe that anything you do will amass great attention, be it good or bad.
Such is the case for television host-actress-entrepreneur Noor Neelofa Mohd Noor, 28, whose “swimming with the dolphins” experience during a holiday trip to Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, recently riled up some quarters.
Pictures of her frolicking with dolphins drew criticism from former 8TV Quickie host and animal activist Rina Omar on Twitter, who disagreed with Neelofa’s activity with the aquatic mammals.
The tweet then led to a series of mixed reactions from fellow Twitter users.
“Sorry Neelofa. You’re beautiful and successful and all — but supporting dolphin encounter attractions is not cool, especially given your influence on your massive fan base.
“(I’m) giving benefit of doubt and hoping it was just a lack of awareness,” tweeted Rina on her Twitter account.
A user replied to Rina: “Celebrities and their lack of understanding of the environment.”
Another chimed in and said: “The case of rich and trying to act cool #bimbo itulah Neelofa sebenarnya (that’s who she really is). In the next few days she’d come out and say she is aware of dolphins, but she was probably on a mission to promote Dubai.”
The tweet also garnered response from others who backed Neelofa, saying Rina was just trying to get attention. By Syahirah Mokhtazar
