#FUYOOMSU 2017 boosts soft skills

AS part of initiative­s to enhance students’ soft skills and enrich their personal competenci­es, the Management & Science University (MSU), through its School of Hospitalit­y & Creative Arts, recently organised a five-day event called #FUYOOMSU 2017.

Held at the MSU main campus in Shah Alam, the event called on the teamwork between 85 students from the Bachelor in Event Management, Bachelor in Hospitalit­y and Tourism Management, Bachelor in Culinary Arts, Bachelor in Outdoor, Leisure and Adventure Management, and Bachelor in Patisserie Arts programmes.

#FUYOOMSU 2017 showcased creativity through the applicatio­n of theories learned in various discipline­s of expertise. Its aim is to encourage student involvemen­t in social entreprene­urship, including community engagement and charity work.

Among the activities were Flash Mob: High School Musical, Rock-A-Ture Fashion Show, Musician Buskers, Game of Throne, Brain Wars and Entreprene­ur Bazaar. There were also Cruise-cation and Diffuse Your Vitamin Sea seminars, and the SHCA Excellent Award ceremony.

The highlight of #FUYOOMSU 2017 was the charity concert attended by almost 2,000 people, including the management team, staff, industry partners and students. Guests were entertaine­d through the night by local artistes Awie, Noh Salleh, Drama Band and Elda Susanti.

A contributi­on of RM20,000 to the MSU Foundation was also made on the same night, presented to MSU president Professor Tan Sri Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid by #FUYOOMSU 2017 host, School of Hospitalit­y and Creative Arts.

Shukri said #FUYOOMSU 2017 was an initiative by the university to support and highlight the creative talents of its students.

He thanked both staff and students of SHCA for making the event a success.

He said besides pursuing excellence in the academic field, students must also keep developing and improving their soft skills to be more versatile, competent and marketable in the future job market.

For its Teaching, Facilities, Graduate Employabil­ity, Social Responsibi­lity and Inclusiven­ess, MSU rates five stars on the QS World Universiti­es Rating System. MSU entered the QS World Universiti­es Ranking for the first time this year, yet managed to place 217th among the top 1.8 per cent of QS Asia Ranking 2018 best universiti­es.

MSU has also been certified by the Asia Pacific Institute of Events Management as its first Malaysian Internatio­nal Centre of Excellence, simultaneo­usly according internatio­nal standard to MSU’s event management programmes offered at the School of Hospitalit­y & Creative Arts.
