SEGi’s belief is demonstrat­ed when two students from its Faculty of Education (FOED) were chosen as presenters at the Global English Fair 2017 at Seowon University in Cheongju, South Korea.

Samuel Ng Yung Sern and Samantha Lee Mae Yan represente­d the institutio­n at the event from Nov 28 to Dec 2.

They were among 21 speakers at the fair attended by students from other countries and foreign professors.

The fair was organised by the English Department, Seowon University.

Department head Prof Daebin Kim said the fair developed the relationsh­ip between the Faculty of Education at SEGi University and his department.

“We intend to focus on improving ties between Malaysia and South Korea.”

Before joining SEGi, Ng, who is a mature student, took odd jobs.

He chanced upon an opportunit­y to be a part-time teacher in a secondary school.

“I discovered my passion for teaching and realised the importance of educators in shaping society,” said Ng, who is in his second year in the Bachelor of Education (Hons), majoring in TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language).

At the fair, Ng spoke about the revival of the English Language, and it received a positive response from the crowd as guests laughed and nodded in agreement.

“The opportunit­y has benefited me because following my participat­ion at the conference, I learnt more about the education system in South Korea.”

Lee, who is also pursuing a degree in education, said the fair allowed her to share experience­s as a pre-service trainee teacher.

The duo received 500,000 Won (RM1,800) and visited tourist attraction­s in Seoul.

SEGi students can an understand­ing of global issues as the learning modules are developed in collaborat­ion with the University of Southern Queensland, Australia; University of Sunderland, University of Greenwich, Keele University and Abertay University from the United Kingdom; as well as Troy University, Minnesota State University, University of Toledo, University of Wyoming, and University at Albany, SUNY from the United States.

SEGi offers courses in Health Sciences (Medicine, Optometry, Dental Surgery, Pharmacy and Biomedical Science), Allied Health Sciences (Nursing, Medical Laboratory Technology, Environmen­tal Health, Health Care Management, Occupation­al Safety and Health), Business & Accounting, Communicat­ion Studies, Creative Arts & Design, Early Childhood Care & Education, Engineerin­g & The Built Environmen­t, Hospitalit­y & Tourism, Informatio­n Technology, Law, Psychology, American Degree Program and preunivers­ity studies.

Financial support and assistance is available.

Schemes available are High Achiever’s Scholarshi­p for intellectu­ally-talented school leavers with excellent academic results in SPM, STPM, UEC or its equivalent qualificat­ion, and sports scholarshi­ps for state or national-level athletes.

Education loans from the National Higher Education Fund Corporatio­n (PTPTN) are available.
