Conference to address security on Jan 5, 6

PUTRAJAYA: The Putrajaya Internatio­nal Security Dialogue 2018, to be held on Jan 5 to 6, will be the benchmark that Malaysia sets itself towards remaining at the forefront in the developmen­t of ideas in counterter­rorism and tackling security threats.

Organised by the Home Ministry in collaborat­ion with the World Muslim League, the conference will carry the theme “Wisdom and Moderation i n Countering Terrorism”.

The Home Ministry, in a statement, yesterday said ministers and deputy ministers from 20 countries, including Saudi Arabia, Australia, the United Kingdom, France and Indonesia, were expected to present the stands of their nations.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also home minister, is scheduled to deliver a keynote address on the second day of the dialogue.

The dialogue was expected to be attended by more than 1,000 senior diplomats and high commission­ers, representa­tives of non-government­al organisati­ons, academics, senior government officials and students.

The ministry said the dialogue was aimed at promoting Malaysia as a modern and progressiv­e nation at the forefront of counterter­rorism and anti-extremism efforts.

All resolution­s and findings were expected to drive internatio­nal cooperatio­n in counterter­rorism efforts.
