APOLICE inspector, two of his subordinates and a civilian here have been arrested to facilitate a probe into a gang robbery and extortion, which took place at a house in Taman Lapangan Permai on Wednesday.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said the suspects had been remanded for six days beginning yesterday.

Yesterday, a 54-year-old man lodged a police report claiming that six men, who had identified themselves as policemen, came to his house to conduct a raid before extorting RM12,300 from him.

It is believed that the money was sought in exchange for the victim’s arrest over alleged possession of drugs.

Noor Rashid said the policemen had claimed that they were just conducting a raid on the house about 2am on Wednesday.

“However, they did not write a report of the raid, which is the standard operating procedure whenever such an operation is conducted.

“We suspect that they took advantage of the situation to extort and harass the victim.”

He said the case would be investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code for unarmed gang robbery.

Perak police deputy chief Datuk Omar Mammah said police were on the hunt for another policeman and a second civilian, also believed to be involved in the case. Bernama
