K-town lives by its code

Lead singer, composer and songwriter Roshan Jamrock of K-town Clan tells Dennis Chua about his band’s newest album

- An album is a package that you present to the masses. It’s like a single is a page, and an album is a book. You understand a little morefromreading the book than just going through a page. A single is a stroke of a brush, an album is the painting. You can

and not rely on investors.

Another problem we faced was writer’s block. But we’ve passed that and we know how to better deal with such situations. It’s all part of the learning experience.

Werecorded at Arrowhead Records and RocshoMusic. OurmusicwasmixedbyIllegal (Naughtius Maximum), JD (Pop Shuvit) and Sho (Rocsho Music).

We featured amazing artistes, some known and some up-and-coming ones such as Maruxa Lynd (Beatburns), Paula Shelton, RamonSingho (Blister), Alex Subryn, Precious Michael, Sho the Beatboxer, MenagaDolmayanandRobertaSchnieders from Brazil.

WHAT DID YOU LEARN FROM

WHICH YOU’VE PUT TO GREAT

USE IN YOUR CAREER?

We learnt that anything is possible. ANYTHING.

We never thought we would win the talent search but ended upGrandChampions. Welearnt that hard work pays off.Welearnt about the importance of doing things at the right time and seizing the moment.

You should not waste a moment of your time trying to please everyone. Some people can be all talk but no walk, all bark but no bite. There are good days and bad days; today might be yours, tomorrow might be mine, but on any day, do what you can for another person to progress in his career or life. We learnt a lot and believe that there is a lot more to learn. WHAT’S THE BIGGEST SETBACK THE BAND HAS HAD, IF ANY?

We’ve had many, but we’d rather focus on the good things. Everyone has setbacks, their career, health and relationship-wise, everyone. Most importantly, we learn from these things and keep marching forward. WHY THE 10,000 TARGET?

We set the target of selling 10,000 copies of our album because we live in a time where albumsales are at anall-time low. In Malaysia, a handful manage to touch those numbers, so we look at it as a milestone achievement if we can reach that target. Hence using the hashtag #DefyTheOdds on our social media.

Despite being told it won’t happen, we believe in people and webelieve in our fans. We’ve got close to 100,000 fans on social media and if just 10 per cent of those people take action and get our album, they’ve helped us reach our target.

WHAT IS THE BAND’S MOST ENRICHING EXPERIENCE?

We’ve won some awards here and in South Korea, we’ve rocked the stage in the Philippines, and I’ve done some songs for international movies and

Last year, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak made me Youth Ambassador.

All these things are amazing but as a group, the most euphoric moment is when we’re on stage and see the crowd singing ANY DREAM PERSON YOU GUYS

WANT TO ROPE IN TO PRODUCE YOUR SONGS IN THE FUTURE?
