THE Driver’s Education Curriculum (KPP) manual will be made available in e-book form starting in March. Road Transport Department (RTD) director-general Datuk Shaharuddin Khalid said the e-book, known as e-KPP, would solve the shortage of the manual version, which usually happened during school holidays.

“We have been receiving complaints about insufficient KPP books, especially during school holidays, as many school leavers will take advantage of the period to obtain their driving licence.

“Therefore, after discussions with the vendor, we decided to have e-KPP to solve shortages in the future,” he said.

Shaharuddin, however, denied that the RTD was facing a serious shortage of KPP books.

“The shortage happens only in certain areas and is largely due to promotions offered by driving schools during the school holidays,” he said after the closing of the RTD Cadet My Lesen programme at SMK Tinggi Setapak.

He said candidates would be given a pin number to view or download the eKPP.

He said the printed copy of the KPP was still available for those who might not have access to the Internet, especially in rural areas.

It was reported that the Malaysian Driving Institute Association called on RTD to address the shortage of the books.

Its president, Mat Aris Bakar, said thousands of students were unable to obtain their driving licence due to the shortage.

Under the RTD Cadet MyLesen programme, 56 RTD cadets from 10 schools in the Federal Territories received their B2 licence.

Under the programme, they were offered the B2 licence at only RM199.

Shaharuddin said the special programme was aimed at making it easier for the student to obtain a valid driving licence.
