Volunteers help repair single mum’s house

-

KUANTAN: A single mother can now look forward to leak-free rainy days and cheerful surroundings after Kelab Waris PBAKM members repaired and repainted her house in Bukit Rangin here.

Its president, Mohd Abdillah Abu Bakar, said with an allocation of RM3,000, 10 Kelab Waris PBAKM members participated in a gotong royong to repair and repaint Sohaida Shaari’s home.

“The programme is part of our corporate social responsibility and Sohaida’s house was chosen after receiving information (on the condition of the house) from our members in Kuantan two weeks ago.

“We were informed that Sohaida and her six children, aged between 11 and 27, had not received any assistance before this,” he said here yesterday.

Sohaida, 49, said the roof of her house had been leaking since early this year.

“I do not have the financial means to repair the roof, which had led to rainwater seeping into the Tenaga Nasional Bhd metre, located on the wall inside the house.

“Every time it rained, we were forced to rely on candles as we were afraid of triggering a short-circuit.”

Abdillah said: “Aside from helping the family, we will take one of Sohaida’s children and nine other underprivileged children to go shopping for their school supplies and items.”
