ISA KEEPS MUM ON FELDA LAND DEAL CONTROVERSY
Former Felda chairman says he does not want to cause more misunderstanding
FORMER Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) chairman Tan Sri Mohd Isa Samad is keeping mum over the Felda land ownership controversy as he does not want to cause any further misunderstanding.
“I have no plans to hold a press conference on the latest controversy surrounding the Felda land ownership and if I want to pick a fight, maybe yes I will hold a press conference but we are not here to pick a fight,” said Isa after presenting schoolbags to pupils at SK Intan Perdana yesterday.
Two weeks ago, a Berita Harian expose reported that Felda stood to lose its hold on its land in Jalan Semarak, Kuala Lumpur, estimated to be worth more than RM200 million, following dubious transactions since 2015 and that Isa was Felda chairman at the time.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said last week that the police would summon Isa to assist in its investigations into the land deal very soon.
A special police task force has been set up to investigate the matter.
Isa said, to date, he has yet to be called up by police to assist in the investigations and added that: “If they (the police) call me, I will let you know.”
Asked about a rumour that police would summon him before he leaves to perform the umrah on Jan 8, Isa replied: “We’ll see how it goes.
“We can’t show off when it comes to matters like this (umrah),” he said, adding that he was not sure whether police would call him up before the trip.
“If they call me, I will surely go (to give his statement).
“(But) I don’t know. This is not like taking an examination (where candidates are made aware of the date in advance).”
