Takiyuddin: Mahfuz’s resignation expected

-

KOTA BARU: Pas has anticipated the decision by Pokok Sena member of parliament Datuk Mahfuz Omar to leave the party, its secretary-general, Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan, said yesterday.

Takiyuddin said it was based on Mahfuz’s actions in disputing Pas leadership for quite some time.

“It is not shocking. He had demonstrated this (decision to leave Pas) through his criticisms of the party’s leadership as if trying to invite Pas to sack him.”

Takiyuddin said he received Mahfuz’s resignation letter at 5.04pm yesterday via email.

In George Town, Penang Pas commissioner Muhammad Fauzi Yusoff told DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng to look at his own party before making remarks about other parties.

Fauzi was responding to Lim’s comments earlier yesterday on Mahfuz leaving Pas. Lim had said that Pas had “sesat” (lost its way) in its political struggle.

He said Lim should reflect on himself when he contacted Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in November for help during a major flood incident in Penang.

“As I recall, he was holding back tears pleading to Zahid for help that day. When Zahid came, he even hugged him as if showing off how good their relationship was.

“Look at yourself first before calling others ‘sesat’ (deviated). We lost nothing with Mahfuz’s decision to leave the party. The party gave him a chance but he decided to leave. He is like the harumanis mango — once rotten, there’s no value.”
