D’Herbs founder lets lawyer handle impounded car

-

KUALA LUMPUR: D’Herbs founder Datuk Seri Aliff Syukri Kamarzaman has instructed his lawyer to handle his impounded car, which was confiscated by the Road Transport Department (RTD) on Sunday night.

This was confirmed by the entrepreneur’s spokesman via a WhatsApp message yesterday.

“Datuk Seri Aliff has yet to release an official statement on the issue.

“His lawyer is dealing with the matter,” the spokesman said.

It is learnt that Aliff is overseas.

It was reported that a Rolls Royce owned by Aliff was impounded by RTD during Op Patuh in Jalan Bangsar on Sunday.

The car, bearing the plate number PMD1, was seized as it was using a road tax that was registered in Sarawak.

A foreigner, who was behind the wheel and believed to have rented the car from Aliff, was arrested as he had no valid travel documents with him.

RTD deputy director-general (operations) Datuk Wan Ahmad Uzir Wan Sulaiman on Sunday said the owner of the car was supposed to renew the road tax in Peninsular Malaysia, which would cost about RM20,000.

“Checks showed that the road tax was registered in Sarawak as it is much cheaper to do so there, (and cost) about RM5,000.

“However, cars that are to be used in the peninsula must be registered in the peninsula.

“We will seize the car until the owner settles the balance of RM15,000,” he said.
