2 nabbed for dealing in drugs

-

KUCHING: Over the last year, two students have been trafficking in synthetic drugs while studying at a private college here.

The duo, aged 19 and 20, may face the hangman’s noose after they were caught with RM40,000 worth of drugs.

One is a mechanical engineering student, while the other is studying for a Diploma in Information and Technology (computer systems).

The discovery was made during a raid on a house in Jalan Stutong here at 2.30pm on Wednesday, following a tip-off which led to weeks of surveillance.

Sarawak Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department chief Superintendent Sahar Abdul Latiff said some of the drugs were found inside a chocolate box in the suspects’ bedroom.

“It was hidden under the bed and it was not (filled with) chocolate, but drugs packed in different-sized packages, and seemed ready to be distributed.”

Among the drugs seized were Ecstasy pills (114g) worth RM28,800; Eramin-5 (79.5g) worth RM5,040; and ketamin (18.8g) worth RM1,800.

“There were also several packets of fruit-flavoured powder drinks, weighing about 160g, which we believe had been mixed with Ecstasy, with a street value of about RM1,800.

“We are investigating whether they are part of a wider syndicate targeting college students,” Sahar said.

Police also seized a Perodua Kelisa, a motorcycle and RM1,208 in cash.
