MACC DETAINS WARISAN VEEP IN CONNECTION WITH RM155m LAND DEAL

-

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) vice-president Datuk Peter Anthony was detained after giving his statement in connection with RM155 million land purchase to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Its deputy chief commissioner (operations), Datuk Seri Azam Baki, said his officers had also gone to Anthony’s home to retrieve some related documents.

On whether Anthony would be remanded, Azam said the matter would be decided today.

“We are still looking for a lawyer (Michael Persius Ubu). At the moment, we are unable to locate him,” he said.

Anthony, who arrived at the Sabah MACC office at the state federal government administrative complex at 10.25am yesterday, spent about three hours with investigating officers.

He was then seen coming out of the office on the third floor, in handcuffs, at 1.20pm.

Anthony said he would be taken to his house, but did not elaborate, before he was led into a vehicle.

On Wednesday, MACC announced it was looking for Anthony, 46, and Ubu, 61, to facilitate investigations into the purchase of the oil palm land.

It was learnt that the purchase of the land, located in Tongod, Sabah, was made between 2015 and last year .

Warisan leaders had yesterday said Ubu was not linked to the party. Last year, Anthony was among 13 individuals remanded by MACC to facilitate investigations into misappropriation of funds for Sabah.

He was arrested on Oct 5 and released on bail on Oct 13.
