‘INDECISION BAD FOR NATION’

Opposition’s ‘family drama’ on ‘transitional PM’ ludicrous, says Gerakan chief

THE opposition is not able to decide on a candidate for prime minister because of constant bickering and infighting, Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong said yesterday.

He said the indecision would do no good for the country. Picking the top leader was a serious matter because it involved the interest and wellbeing of the people.

“There will be no political stability and a big fight will occur but I hope this won’t happen,” said Mah at Gerakan and MCA’s inaugural Stronger Together rally here.

“Their constant bickering and infighting is akin to a family drama, where everyone has their own nominee and then comes out with a ludicrous idea of a ‘transitional prime minister’, which is created for the sake of passing the post to another person.”

The rally saw the gathering of more than 2,500 members from the two parties, which included leaders such as Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong, Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan, Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun, Datuk Chong Sin Woon and Datuk Liang Teck Meng.

Mah lambasted the opposition over its inconsistency in implementing the two-party system in Malaysia for the past 10 years.

“Instead, it has been using the ‘hereditary or dynastic’ system within its own party. One party is controlled by a fatherand-son combination, the other by a family and the new ‘flower’ party by a 93-year-old man who is bent on installing his son on the throne,” said Mah.

He said this in reference to DAP’s Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng, PKR’s Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Mah said, after gaining power in Penang 10 years ago, DAP had forsaken its original struggle, such as morality, honesty and politics of principles, for the sake of power and greed.

He said this was evident in its overdrive in development projects in the state and Penang’s failure to manage the economy.

“How is this a government that is competent, accountable and transparent? How is this a government that champions the people? It is time for Malaysians to ask tough questions and no longer be blinded by the sweet rhetoric of a party that stands for nothing but their own interests.”

Gerakan and MCA, Mah said, would seek to improve the social standing and livelihood of the Chinese community.

He said they would benefit from a comprehensive and elaborate action plan that was being drafted.

The plan covered aspects such as economy, education and commerce.

“For a multiracial country, it is imperative that political stability remain the foundation for continued wealth and prosperity of all Malaysians.

“I am sure DAP, PKR and PPBM are incapable of providing this because of constant bickering and internal turmoil.

“As a coalition, Barisan Nasional is filled with different personalities. It is undeniable that there will be the occasional clash of characters among some members.

“But, I believe that is all for the greater good to ensure BN’s victory in the coming general election.

“Let bygones be bygones, and refocus our efforts and attention to face the general election and come together as one.”
