Perak Umno Youth lodges report against Dr Mahathir

IPOH: Perak Umno Youth lodged a police report yesterday against Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for purportedly trying to influence the public to topple Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak through undemocratic means.

Its chief, Khairul Shahril Mohamed, said the report was lodged based on Dr Mahathir’s statements at the recent PPBM annual general assembly (AGM) that appeared to contain elements of public incitement.

“(Dr Mahathir) is trying his level best to topple our prime minister. We can see that his actions are having a bad impact on the country’s democratic system, (the same system which was in place) during his 22-year administration. We are upset to see his actions, especially his plots against the prime minister, as they could jeopardise the country’s stability, as well as affect future generations,” he said after lodging the report at the Sungai Senam police station here.

Khairul said Perak Umno Youth was urging the authorities to investigate the matter and take action against the former prime minister if it was found that he had violated the law.

“We think it is better for him to stop making statements against the government and prime minister. In this country, we have a democratic process in choosing our leader and he should respect the system.

“As an elder statesman and a respected figure, Dr Mahathir should understand how the system works, but his actions are dangerous and can disrupt public order. That is why we lodged a police report today (yesterday).”

In his speech during PPBM’s AGM, Dr Mahathir said the party was formed to topple Najib and protect Malaysians.
