‘Infidel issue no longer relevant’

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The infidel issue raised by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is no longer relevant.

It was nothing more than a polemic, which was being recycled in view of the approaching 14th General Election (GE14), said Pas Youth deputy chief Khairil Nizam Khairudin.

He said the wing would also take the same approach as Pas’s leadership on the issue by forgiving the former prime minister.

“That issue is no longer relevant to us. In fact, he is also no longer relevant in politics.

“Pas Youth would like to look to the future.

“As such, we do not want to discuss Dr Mahathir’s statement on the matter,” he said here yesterday.

Present were Pas Youth election director Nurul Islam Muhammed Yusoff, the wing’s information chief Hishamudin Abdul Karim and its treasurer Mokhtar Suhaili.

Khairil Nizam also urged Dr Mahathir to cease his politics of hate and instead embrace a more mature form of politics.

He added that the younger generation was sick and tired of such political play and was, instead, keen on current issues such as the quality of life.

“This is the issue which we should be focusing on together, even though we do not sit with the opposition any more.”

On the call for a Royal Commission of Inquiry to be formed to look into the Memali tragedy, Khairil Nizam reiterated their stand, that justice should be served to the families of the victims.
