MACC to vet candidates submitted by parties
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has received the list of candidates for the 14th General Election (GE14) from several political parties for vetting.
MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad said the commission was confident the other political parties would also submit their list of candidates in the near future.
“They may not have submitted their candidates’ list to MACC, as it is probably being scrutinised by the (respective parties’) top leadership,” he said.
“Which party has submitted? I don’t have to reveal... let it be a secret,” he said after attending the Corruption-Free Pledge by members of the Chinese New Villages development and security committee at Wisma MCA here yesterday.
In a related development, Dzulkifli said the additional evidence submitted by Parti Cinta Malaysia in relation to the Penang underwater tunnel project on Friday was being scrutinised by the commission’s officers.
He said the evidence submitted was related to the payment made in relation to the land ownership transfer in Penang following the implementation of the mega project.
“If there is a basis, we will open an investigation paper to enable MACC to take action,” Dzulkifli said.
