Man high on wanted list nabbed after 10-day pursuit

-

KUANTAN: A man high on the police’s wanted list was arrested yesterday after a 10-day pursuit across two states.

Sought by police for rape, kidnap, theft, molest, cheating and impersonation, the 32-year-old was nabbed in front of a hotel in Ipoh.

A fake pistol, a car, two handphones and RM100 were recovered from the suspect when he was apprehended at 2am.

State Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Othman Nanyan said the man’s detention would be extended.

Othman said the suspect, who was from Bentong, was also sought for four cheating cases in Mentakab, a molest case in Cameron Highlands, theft in Pekan and rape in Terengganu.

He is also wanted in connection with two cases of impersonating a public servant in Johor and Raub, Pahang.

Othman said detectives tracked him for 10 days, after a woman claimed her daughter was taken by a policeman from Ulu Gali in Raub on Dec 27.

The man had earlier identified himself as a newly transferred police sergeant and that he was in charge of the Sungai Ruan station.

He asked the girl to bring his newly-purchased motorcycle from a shop to his house. She was instead taken away.

The 37-year-old woman lodged a report after her daughter called her from Gua Musang, Kelantan.

The daughter returned to Raub two days later after taking a bus from Kuala Lumpur.
