AN online contest for former National Service trainees was launched by Deputy Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Johari Baharom here.

The Camp Warriors contest, opened to 865,000 former trainees, will run until Aug 31 this year. A host of prizes will be up for grabs for main, monthly and lucky draw winners.

Johari said the contest, which was open to former trainees, offered prizes such as motorcycles, smartphones, holiday packages, televisions, laptops and many more.

He said to win the prizes, contestants needed to accumulate marks throughout the contest period.

“The Camp Warriors application is available both on Google Play and Apple Store for free. The public may also take part in the game, but the prizes are only offered to NS alumni,” he said at the launch of the online Camp Warriors contest.

Present were state Youth and Sports Committee chairman Datuk Aminuddin Omar and National Service Department director-general Datuk Mohmed Asri Yusof, Defence Ministry’s secretary-general Datuk Seri Abdul Rahim Mohamad Radzi and his three deputies Datuk Halimi Abd Manaf (development), Datuk Mohd Zainy Mohamed Zain (management) and Datuk Junaidah Kamaruddin (policy).

Johari said the Camp Warriors game was for both individual and multi-players categories, with the objective to instil patriotism, and volunteerism spirit in the NS alumni while forging a rapport between the alumni and the NS Department.

Johari also encouraged former trainees to sign up for the National Service Volunteer Brigade (NSVB) to serve the nation through volunteer programmes.

He said to date, 323,314 NS alumni had registered with the brigade.

“The good thing about this brigade is that the alumni will be trained to handle relief efforts during natural disasters and we want them to excel in all aspects similar to the capability of volunteers in developed nations.

“It will be great if we can deploy more NS alumni in natural disaster missions such as the flood disaster-hit areas as it will be a good exposure for them,” he said.

During the event, Johari, who is also Kubang Pasu member of parliament, also launched the NS 2.0 mini carnival, which offered various interesting activities and contests, involving various government agencies.

Johari said the NS 2.0 had received overwhelming response from parents following transformation carried out by the ministry on the NS programme.

“As compared to the previous NS, the NS 2.0 is much more attractive as we have overhauled almost every aspect, including the modules, trainers, facilities and even integrated vocational and technical training elements.

“We have received many inquiries from parents, who are interested to send their children for the NS and this is a good sign because we want the NS alumni to become agents of national development and unity.”

Johari added that this year’s NS training was opened to youth born in year 2000 and between 1998 and 1999. The application form is available via www.khidmatnegara.gov.my. The ministry is targeting 20,000 trainees for four intakes this year.
