Rahman Dahlan serves writ on Rafizi

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Ab dul Rahman Dahlan has served a writ on Rafizi Ramli over the claim that the Expo Negaraku contract was awarded to his “brother” Raslan Dahlan.

The legal action was to compel the Pandan member of parliament to withdraw the claim within seven days of the writ issuance.

“Through my media conference on Dec 11, I have informed that I have instructed my lawyer to give his legal opinion regarding Rafizi’s statement.

“After scrutinising the matter, my lawyer has been instructed to initiate l egal action against Rafizi. A letter of claim was issued on Jan 5.

“On the same day, we went to his office to hand over the letter to him but he was not around.

“A second attempt was made yesterday, but Rafizi was, again, not at his office. Therefore, the letter has been passed to Mohd Shariffudin, who is believed to be one of Rafizi’s staff,” the minister in the Prime Minister’s Department said in a statement yesterday.

The letter, among other things, urges Rafizi to withdraw his statement and issue an apology within seven days from the date the writ was issued.

Rahman said failure to comply would lead him to file a defamation suit against the PKR lawmaker.

Previously, in a press conference, Rafizi had claimed that Rahman had awarded the contract to Raslan, who is the chief executive officer of PICO Integrated Exhibit Sdn Bhd.

After Rahman refuted this, Rafizi admitted he had made a mistake but was only prepared to apologise to Raslan over the error.

Rafizi had also challenged Rahman to sue him if he found the statements to be defamatory.
