Reezal: Pakatan built on distrust, suspicion
KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan has exposed itself as a pact built on distrust and suspicion, Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said.
He said the announcement that Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) would contest 52 seats, PKR (51 seats), DAP (35 seats) and Parti Amanah Negara (27 seats), showed that Pakatan’s structure lacked the all-important core.
“Unlike Barisan Nasional, the squabbling factions in Pakatan will inevitably challenge each other ’s standing. (And) unlike Umno, there is no equal in Pakatan to provide a foundation which can withstand such challenges ,” he said.
He said Pakatan’s flawed equation also blocked any other voice wishing to join the coalition.
In contrast, he said, BN had always guaranteed representation for all, based on the values of accommodation and tolerance.
He said as the core of BN, Umno had ensured stability among its alliance members.
“This is no small feat, given the diverse social fabric of our country.
“On the other hand, elaborate power-sharing calculations, such as Pakatan Harapan’s seat distribution, have caused political instability in several western democracies.
“In recent years, we have seen major world leaders failing to get policies enacted due to coalition infighting.
“As such, Malaysians do not deserve such a hollow pact, that is Pakatan Harapan.”
