Perak suspect had criminal record, says IGP

-

KUALA LUMPUR: A 57-year-old Malaysian, who was shot dead by Indonesian police on Monday, had a drug-related criminal record.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the suspect from Perak was one of two Malaysians who were suspected by Indonesian police of transporting drugs.

“One was shot dead and another Malaysian was arrested by Indonesian police.

“Investigations revealed that he (the dead suspect) was involved in the activities.

“We are working closely with our counterparts in this case,” he said yesterday.

It was reported that Chin Yoo Fah or Acin, a cook, was shot dead by Indonesian police in an anti-drug operation in Medan.

According to a report by Tribun News, North Sumatera police chief Paulus Waterpauw said police had to take the action as Chin had tried to escape.

He said the suspect was arrested in Jalan Imam Bonjol, in front of Vihara Borobudur, after an Indonesian accomplice, known as Azhari, 35, was arrested.

Police had seized 4kg of syabu from the suspects.

They later arrested three Indonesian suspects — Tan Siong Tiong, 45; Joni @ Aguan, 47; and Susanto @ Santo, 37 — and seized an unspecified amount of syabu from them.

Paulus said two of the men, Siong Tiong and Joni, were also shot dead when they tried to escape.

He said police had seized 15kg of syabu in total.

The drugs were believed to have been smuggled into Indonesia via the Pekan Baru port.
