10 INITIATIVES FOR PERAK CIVIL SERVANTS
Zambry says they will be implemented this year to better serve the people
THE Perak government has underscored 10 initiatives which will be implemented this year to better serve the people. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said, high on the list of initiatives were greater coordination and cooperation between the state government and federal agencies.
He cited the example of the state’s poultry farms and chicken-processing factories in Manjung, Tanjung Malim, Bidor and Trong.
He said these farms, though a crucial component, had created problems for residents as they had l ed to townships being swarmed with flies.
“The Licensing Department issues licences for these farms as there is a need to fulfil food production needs in the country. Yet at the same time, this creates a different set of problems for the locals.
“We have to work with the Federal Government to find solutions to problems like this,” Zambry said at an Executive Talk session organised by the state government yesterday.
Zambry stressed the importance of the use of Bahasa Melayu as the official language of delivery by government departments and agencies.
He referred to a recent incident where a notice written in English, laden with grammatical errors, was put up at a Tourist Information Centre in the state, which drew flak from visitors and Netizens.
“This (the incident) serves as a lesson to all. Those involved must take the necessary steps to ensure that such mistakes do not recur in the future,” he said.
Zambry said, apart from improving coordination and language, the state government would also focus on eight other aspects.
These were upholding ethics of confidentiality, continuity, cleanliness, being result-driven, focusing on heritage sustainability, being committed, being fit, and maintaining a high level of preparedness to ensure that targets set by the state government can be achieved.
Zambry said Perak was on the right track in terms of development.
He expressed confidence that there would be a continuity in the initiatives and programmes set to be implemented this year.
Zambry said since he took office in 2009, Perak had recorded various achievements.
These included registering a 67 per cent increase in revenue last year (compared with 2009), achieving a financial reserve of RM1.1 billion last year, as well as drawing RM19.4 billion in direct investments, which had created 40,000 job opportunities.
“The state government was successful in reducing the unemployment rate from 3.8 per cent in 2008 to 3.4 per cent in 2016,
“It registered a surplus budget for eight consecutive years, and built 45,515 houses through collaborations with various parties, including the 1Malaysia People’s Housing Programme,” he said.
