Panda eyes

-

THE New Year is well under way and while we’re excited for new adventures and challenges, it also means we’ll be turning a year older. Weareconstantly being told howimportant it is to take care of our skin. Yes, sunscreen is a must and you should never run out of moisturiser.

As you age, pigmentation and wrinkles start appearing on your face. I’ve noticed that my under-eye area has gradually darkened over the last year, something I never thought I’d have to deal with until I reached 30.

I’m a few years shy of the big 3-O but my dark circles have decided to come out and say hello to the world.

On most days when I wear my dark rimmed glasses I can get away with not having to really cover my under eye area with concealer and foundation. But on the days when I go glasses-free, the circles are pretty obvious, even with concealer and foundation. The questions come pouring in from family and friends — “Did you not get enough sleep last night? Why do you look so tired?”

It also doesn’t help to have a brutally honest sister who tells me I’m starting to look like a panda as the days go by. But pandas are adorable so I take that as a compliment.

Maybe genetics is contributing to my dark circles appearing at an earlier age but I’m not going to sit around and dwell on it but instead, do something about it because it’s something I can fix (hopefully).

Concealers and foundation may help but they are temporary cover-ups. When I remove them after a long day, I still can’t run away from the dark circles.

Here’s the trouble with the eye area. They’re akin to your Twitter updates — your eyes paint a picture of what’s going on in your life. Maybe you lack sleep, or you’ve been stressed out or slacking on the sunscreen. Whatever the reasons, under eye circles make you appear older than you actually are.

I’d like to think that I get enough sleep every night and blame it on my genes and my inconsistency in applying sunscreen.

In case you suffer from the same problem as yours truly, here are some home remedies that may help.
