Furniture shop worker remanded for 1 week
MIRI: A furniture shop worker, who was arrested for allegedly murdering his lover’s daughter, has been remanded for a week.
The remand against the 33year-old man was granted when he was produced before magistrate Zuraini Ali Musa at 2.30pm yesterday.
State Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Dev Kumar said the suspect would be remanded until Jan 17.
“A post-mortem on the victim, 13, is expected to be conducted either tomorrow or the following day to ascertain if the teenager had sustained other injuries.”
It was reported that a police patrol team caught the suspect when he was trying to dump the victim’s body at an alley near some bushes in Jalan Perlis, Kuala Baram, near here.
The two-man patrol team spotted the suspect acting suspiciously with the boot of his car left open at 5.55pm yesterday.
A chase ensued when the suspect immediately closed the boot, jumped into his vehicle, and sped off when he noticed the policemen. Police cornered the suspect’s car at a junction in Miri port, about 5km away.
Checks showed the suspect had stuffed the body of the victim, believed to have been killed earlier, inside the boot of the vehicle. There was strangulation marks on the victim’s neck.
It was reported that the suspect was staying with his lover and her two daughters at a house in Permyjaya here.
Earlier, an argument broke out between the suspect and the victim when both of them were alone in the house. The argument turned deadly when the suspect became aggressive and allegedly strangled the victim.
“Investigation is ongoing and we are in the process of ascertaining the cause of the argument between the suspect and the victim,” Dev said.
