That is what his statement meant, says Chegubard

DATUK Seri Mukhriz Mahathir’s statement that all politicians want to become a leader is a clear indication that he wants to become the prime minister.

Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia founder Badrul Hisham Shaharin said the statement by Mukhriz, who is Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) deputy president and former Kedah menteri besar, showed he aimed to be prime minister.

However, Badrul Hisham, who is also known as Chegubard, said, Mukhriz would not be able to shoulder the task and would need support from his father, PPBM chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“Mukhriz has a weak character, that is why he was called ‘Boboi’. He has the desire, but he is too weak and dependent on his father.”

Political analyst Associate Professor Dr Mohd Izani Mohd Zain, from Universiti Putra Malaysia, said Mukhriz had said all politicians aspired to be leaders.

“This means that he also aspires to be prime minister,” Izani said of the statement by Mukhriz at the High Court on Thursday.

In his witness statement in his defamation suit against former DAP vice-chairman Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim on Thursday, Mukhriz said everyone in the political arena had desires to become a leader, including becoming prime minister.

“I do have the desire to become a leader, but it has to be through a sincere and transparent way, not through deception, controversy, evil or secret pacts, as claimed by the defendant,” he said of the allegations.

“But that desire must be borne of a pure heart because the responsibility to be shouldered would be a big national trust,” said Mukhriz, who is also Ayer Hitam assemblyman.

Mukhriz had said it was not a crime for any politician serving the people to have such a desire as long as it was done legitimately in the interest of the public.
