My prayers have been answered, says mother

SEREMBAN: For V. Malliga, 48, nothing can beat the joy of seeing the excitement of her adopted daughter after she received the green light to attend Year One at SK Taman Rasah Jaya yesterday.

G. Darshana, 7, who had been denied admission to a school here as she was classified as a non-citizen, was over the moon, especially when she was reunited with some of her former kindergarten classmates at the school.

“She was overjoyed to see her friends. She was eager to go to class. She couldn’t sleep last night. She was too excited. My daughter has been talking about her school, class, friends and teachers non-stop,” said Malliga.

“As a mother, nothing beats seeing my daughter’s dream come true. My prayers have been answered,” she said, adding that her daughter’s ambition was to be a teacher.

It was reported that Darshana’s adoptive parents, B. Ganesan and Malliga, had tried to register her at a school, but was told by the school that she must have a passport and proper documents to do so.

Malliga said Darshana was categorised as a non-citizen due to lack of information about her biological parents.

Malliga said she was excited to buy textbooks and other necessities for her daughter as her daughter was not eligible to receive the textbook assistance scheme from the school.

“I don’t mind working twice as hard to provide for my daughter. The most important thing is that she wants to learn. I hope she will be successful one day and help other children to excel in their studies,” she said.
