KLHC clinch Charity Shield

-

KL Hockey Club (KLHC) captured their second title in six days by overcoming Terengganu Hockey Team (THT) 5-4 on penalty shootout after the Charity Shield-cum-Premier Division match of the Malaysian Hockey League ended 2-2 in Kuala Terengganu yesterday.

Last weekend, KLHC defeated THT also on penalty shootout in the Alagendra Cup final.

KLHC led 2-0 only for THT to level t he match.

South Korean Jang Jong Hyun (16th) and Hafizuddin Zaidi (24th) netted for KLHC before THT came back with goals by Faizal Saari (44th) and Argentine Gonzalo Peillat (58th).

“It was a case of losing two points rather than gaining one after taking a 2-0 lead,” said KLHC coach Lim Chiow Chuan.

“However, winning the Charity Shield eases our pain.

“We did not play to expectations and for long spells we were chasing the ball rather than letting our opponents work harder.

“We were always second best to the ball today. We need to do more in order to keep possession in upcoming matches.”

Both teams started off cautiously in the first quarter as there was hardly a single on target attempt.

In the penalty shootout, Faizal missed the opening attempt that led to THT’s defeat.

THT 2 KLHC 2 , TNB THUNDERBOLTS 2 MAYBANK 1, UNIKL 2 TNB 3.

TNB v KLHC (6pm), MAYBANK v UNIKL (8pm), THT v TNB THUNDERBOLTS (8.30pm).
