Princess to promote women’s career development

PUTRAJAYA: Career development for women tops Selangor Princess Tengku Datin Paduka Setia Zatashah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah’s todo list this year.

Tengku Zatashah, who is active in volunteer work, said this yesterday after she was named one of 2018 Women Empowerment Year’s (TMW18) campaign icons.

“I do have a bucket list in terms of pushing through women’s empowerment, such as in education, career development and health.

“For me, it is important to push for career development.

“So, it is really about pushing women and young girls to further their careers.

“We are very good at multitasking. Women can juggle personal and professional lives.

“That is something we can really push forward for women in Malaysia,” she said after the launch of the TMW18 logo and branding by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

On her being chosen as a TMW18 icon, Tengku Zatashah said it was a privilege as women’s empowerment was something she was passionate about.

“If I can give ideas to the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry and help inspire other women, that will be great. I look forward to discussing them (ideas) with the ministry and see what we can do this year.”

Other TMW18 icons include e-commerce entrepreneur and FashionValet founder Datin Vivy Yusof and businesswoman Nor Neelofa Mohd Noor.

Tengku Zatashah said there were many inspiring success stories among Malaysian women.

“Women in Malaysia have done a lot, but I think we can do a lot more.”

To a question, she said she agreed that the government had done much for women in Malaysia.

“But, I think women’s empowerment around the world needs to take that step forward, especially in professional life, career development and equality for women. There are many areas that women’s empowerment can drive forward. If these things can be done this year, that will be wonderful.”

Vivy said she would do whatever possible to help women excel.
