LABUAN: The Labuan Development Blueprint 2030, which will be launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today, is expected to chart positive growth for Labuan folk.

Labuan Financial Services Authority corporate affairs director Yon Zahimah Ibrahim said the blueprint comprised plans to transform Labuan into a smart and sustainable island city.

“It is a holistic and comprehensive plan, driven by economic drivers to chart positive growth for Labuan people.

“Under the blueprint, the education, tourism and public services sectors will be nurtured and stimulated to create further growth in building their own linkages and clusters, while the financial and oil and gas sectors will be strengthened,” she said during a media briefing here.

She said the plan would make the island a well-integrated economic regional hub to better serve the business, investment and intermediation needs of the region, including Sabah, Sarawak and Asian markets.

“As a subset of the blueprint, the Labuan International Business and Financial Centre’s transformation plan reflects and facilitates the national commitment of the government to elevate the economic stature of Labuan to become an integral growth component of the nation’s economy.”

The launch of the blueprint will kickoff Najib’s two-day visit here and to Sabah.
